Topic:      Independant Contractor or Employee?  A Big Question in 2012!

With local, state, and federal governments having major budget shortfalls, the various taxing and workforce agencies have started to look at whether companies are properly classifying their workers as independant contractors as one revenue source. We will talk about the proper classification of 1099 vs. W2 employees,  the analysis that a company needs to be ready to respond to when an audit is made, and the steps companies can take to protect themselves from running into problems.

About the Speaker:

Mark is Board Certified in Labor and Employment Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, defending management of several Fortune 100 companies and many smaller public and privately held corporations. He advises and trains clients on state and federal employment issues consisting of employee benefits, discrimination, and wage and hour matters. Mark's experience has included appearances before state and federal agencies and regulatory boards, litigation in both state and federal courts, defense of class actions and appearances before courts of appeal. Some of these employment related matters include age, race, national origin, disability and sex discrimination charges, sexual harassment claims, wrongful termination suits, defamation actions, family leave issues, employee benefits, health and safety matters, and wage and hour disputes.
